SOP-1.1
Active Supervision and Positioning Policy
Educators must maintain constant visual and auditory awareness of all children under care at all times.
Mandatory Compliance Requirements:
- Educators must never turn their backs to the main group of children.
- Staff must position themselves strategically at opposite corners of the room/playground (Zoning Principle).
- No educator may use personal mobile phones or unapproved electronics during active floor supervision.
- In Infant/Toddler rooms (Seedlings & Sprouts), physical proximity must be within armβs reach during feeding and high-table activities.
Standard Step-by-Step Procedure:
- Upon entering the classroom, the Lead Educator conducts an immediate physical headcount and logs it on the Room Tablet HUD.
- When two educators are present, one educator manages the primary floor activity while the second educator supervises transition/washroom routines.
- Before moving outdoors, conduct a mandatory Two-Educator Name-to-Face Roll Call verification.
Custom Facility Directive (Little Butterflies Daycare):
- Seedlings Room: Double-educator verification required before moving between room and outdoor grass yard.

Infant Sleep & Nap Time Monitoring Protocol
Mandates strict safe sleep environments and documented 15-minute physical checks for sleeping infants.
Mandatory Compliance Requirements:
- All infants under 12 months must be placed on their backs on a firm, flat mattress meeting Canadian safety standards.
- No heavy blankets, bumper pads, plush toys, or pillows are permitted inside cribs.
- Educators must physically observe sleeping infants every 15 minutes, verifying regular breathing, skin color, and room temperature.
Standard Step-by-Step Procedure:
- Place infant in assigned labeled crib in accordance with back-to-sleep standards.
- Activate quiet Nap Mode on the Room Tablet HUD to log nap start time.
- Perform visual physical check every 15 minutes and record initials on the daily infant chart.
- Never leave sleeping infants in an unattended room without a certified educator stationed in direct line of sight.
